System Installation Requirements
What operating systems can my WinTV board be installed under?
The WinTV PCI boards will function on Windows95, Windows98, Windows ME, WindowsNT 4.0 (service pack 3 or higher), Windows 2000, and Windows XP systems.
3rd party Developers have also written WinTV-pci drivers for both LINUX, and the BeOS. These drivers, information, and their support may be found on their respective websites.
Note on Linux: Video drivers for Hauppauge WinTV-PCI are included as modules to the linux 2.2 kernel (included with Redhat 6.x)
To load them use the following commands (as root)
/sbin/modprobe bttv (loads the bttv driver which supports WinTV-PCI)
/sbin/modprobe tuner (load the TV Tuner module)
/sbin/modprobe msp3400 (load the msp34xx chip interpreter which handles
sound on the WinTV-PCI)
Once these modules are loaded any standard TV application for X should work (such as XawTV and kWinTV which both have rpms for linux)

If you have received your WinTV board without software or instructions, from a PC manufacturer directly, or a vendor such as Tigerdirect.com, please follow these steps to install the board on your system:
- Install the WinTV board into a free PCI slot in the system, and bootup Windows.
- Cancel the "New Hardware Wizard" detection process that comes up upon bootup.
- Download the appropriate driver for the WinTV board:
For Windows 95/98/ME/XP and For Windows NT4.0, 2000
Also, download the WinTV application software (universal version for all versions of Windows).
- Double click on the driver file to install it, and reboot Windows.
- After the driver installation completes, install the WinTV application software.
- If your WinTV is the Radio model, also download and install the WinRadio application:
Minimum System Requirements to Install WinTV-PCI:
A Pentium 90Mhz or faster is recommended, as well as a motherboard with an INTEL PCI controller chipset for optimum performance. Also, a VGA card that fully supports all aspects of Direct Draw would be required.
WDM OVERLAY mode drivers V.S. VFW Standard Mode drivers:
VFW Drivers are the standard drivers used for WinTV for most cases. If you are using Windows XP and wish to use the de-interlacer feature(Available with XP only), you must use the WDM Drivers. The VGA card in the system must correctly support Overlay mode to use the WDM drivers.
Connecting a SATELLITE / DSS / CABLE BOX to WinTV:
You must set the WinTV to the recommended channel (usually channel 3) and then control channels with the Satellite receiver / Cable Box. If your satellite receiver / Cable Box has a composite output, it is recommended to connect it to the WinTV's Composite input instead. The clarity of the picture will be better this way. WinTV would then be set to the composite source, Either way, the Satellite receiver / Cable Box will still control the channels.

Can I run WinTV with Power Management/Hibernate options enabled?
WinTV requires that all power management setting be turned off or disabled for proper functionality from the WinTV device. With the Power Management options enabled, the WinTV will not recover from a Sleep mode or Hibernation mode. You would have to reboot in order to make WinTV work again.
Issues with installing WinTV on DELL systems?
We have found some Resource Allocation and Plug-n-Play issues on certain Dell systems when installing the WinTV card.
Some installation problems may include: failure to recognize the WinTV card after initial installation, invalid resources assigned to WinTV (ie. IRQ 0), and being unable to reassign resources to the WinTV card.
For DELL 8100 systems(running Windows 98 or ME only) experiencing these problems, please download this file HERE. Save the ICH_Bridge_fix.reg file to your desktop. Double click on this file to add the information to the registry, and reboot the system. This should correct the problem for Dell 8100 systems, as well as DELL Optiplex 400 systems.
In most cases, a BIOS flash from Dell may correct these problems. We have found this to be true on the following Dell systems:
- Optiplex 110
- Optiplex 300
- Dimension 4100
- Dimension 8100
- (and a few other unconfirmed models at this time. If your Model is not listed please contact Dell or Hauppauge Tech Support for further information)
BIOS downloads, information, and support would need to be provided by Dell.
NOTE: In some cases the BIOS would need to be upgraded, but in others, the BIOS would have to go back a version. BIOS version A02 seems to work the best. We have found in some cases with the 8100 series that reverting from A02 to A01 BIOS version is necessary, and in other models with newer BIOS'(A05, etc.), that reverting to A02 BIOS may address the problem.
