Notes on using the ZoneAlarm firewall with MediaMVP

Zone Alarm is a popular firewall, and is easy to configure for use with MediaMVP. Here are notes on installing MediaMVP on your PC when using Zone Alarm.

Norton Internet Security Firewall (2002 Pro)

When you first install the Media MVP software, the firewall will indicate that a remote system is attempting to access "hcwsms.exe" on your computer. Select "Permit this system to access your computer." Also, place a checkmark in the box indicating "Always use this action for this application". Click OK.

The next message you should see will indicate that a remote system is attempting to access MediaMVP Start on your computer. Repeat as above, and select "Permit this system to access your computer.' Also, place a checkmark in the box indicating "Always use this action for this application.' Click OK.

Your Norton firewall is now configured properly for use with the Media MVP.

McAfee Personal Firewall Plus (2004)

When you install the Media MVP software, the McAfee Personal Firewall Plus will indicate that the program "hcwsms.exe" is requesting to access the internet. Choose "I want to Grant access"

Your McAfee Personal Firewall is now configured for use with the Media MVP.
