WDM Driver and applications for Windows XP users

WinTV works best under Windows XP!

WinTV running under Windows XP has a new feature called "de-interlacer". This feature improves the video quality of TV running on your PC screen. For example, if you've noticed lines in your TV picture when watching a football game, or when watching a news ticker, the WinTV's new de-interlacer will remove the lines.

De-interlacer requires the latest WinTV driver for Windows XP and the latest WinTV application, which are listed below.

Note: This WDM driver supports most Hauppauge WinTV PCI based boards, including the ImpactVCB, the WinTV BT848 based boards and the WinTV-Theater. It does not currently support the WinTV-D, the WinTV-HD, the WinTV USB products or the WinTV-PVR's.

WinTV driver for Windows XP

Note: the operation of WinTV requires two pieces: the WinTV WDM driver and the WinTV2000 application. You cannot run the application without loading the driver.
Download WDM driver version 3.31
WDM driver for use under WindowsXP.
Note: This driver will work with all WinTV PCI boards, except for the WinTV-D and WinTV-PVR.

To install, download to a temporary directory and run WDM331_20112.exe

Name: WDM331_20112.exe
Version 3.31_20112
size=1,160K
Updated August 3, 2002

Note: Disconnect your PC from the Internet and remove any CD-ROM from your CD-ROM drive until this update has been installed. WindowsXP searches Microsoft Update over the Internet and the CD-ROM drive for drivers, and will get confused if, for example, you have left an older version of the WinTV Installation CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive.

WinTV application for use under Windows XP

Note: the operation of WinTV under Windows requires two pieces: a WinTV driver and a WinTV application. You cannot run the application without loading the driver.
Download WinTV2000 application version 3.39

To install, copy this file to a temporary directory on your local disk. Then run WINTV2K339_20112.EXE, which is the installation program for the WinTV application.
Note: This application will run under Windows XP only.
Note: This version requires WinTV WDM driver version 3.17 or later (see above).

Installation instructions:

  1. Download this file (WINTV2K339_20112.EXE) and save it to a directory you will remember (for example: C:\)
  2. Run WINTV2K339_20112.EXE. This will unpack the driver and start the installation. You do not need to reboot your PC when the installation is complete.

Note on using the de-interlacer: The de-interlacer will be activated when you run WinTV full screen. If you would like the de-interlacer to be activated while watching TV in a window, click the Pref button on the WinTV application, then click on the Deinterlace tab and, in the Window setting, click on Deinterlace.

3rd Party Software

DScaler website
Hauppauge uses parts of the Descaler technology in our latest WDM drivers to provide a better TV picture from our WinTV PCI boards. We are grateful to the DScaler team for providing us with their de-interlacing routines.
You can get a fully functioning open-source DScaler application which aims to supply the best possible picture from your Hauppauge WinTV PCI board. At this time DScaler does not fully support the onboard tuners of our cards but works extremely well if you are using external sources such as laserdisc or DSS.

Note: This application is not recommended for PC novices. See the DScaler website (http://www.dscaler.org/) for more details and to download DScaler.
