All WinTV PCI models, including the WinTV GO, WinTV Theater, and Impact VCB models may be installed on Windows XP systems.
For instructions on reinstalling the WinTV PCI on Windows XP, with the exception of the WinTV Theater model, please follow these steps, using the software and drivers provided on that page.
As a general rule during all WinTV installations on Windows XP systems, be sure that you are disconnected from any LAN/WAN, and that the WinTV CD rom disk is not in your CD drive when installing any of the software updates from our website.
The RADIO and IR REMOTE software may also be downloaded and installed for applicable models.
For older model WinTV PCI and VCB boards based on the BT848 Chipset, as well as the WinTV Theater model, download and install the WinTV Driver 3.11 and Application 3.31
You may also alternatively use these versions for any of the WinTV PCI models if you are not having success using the WDM versions.
If you are having trouble with the WinTV installation on Windows XP, download and run the Hcwclear utility and run this to remove the existing WinTV files from the system. Choose "total removal" and put a checkmark in the box for "Search all .INF files for conflicting Bt8xx hardware" and click OK.
Download the driver and application and follow the instructions on the following WEB page. http://www.hauppauge.com/xp/xpinstall.htm
OR you may alternately use the following versions to address the problem:
Download and install the WinTV Driver 3.11 and Application 3.31 after following the above uninstall procedure.
TROUBLESHOOTING NOTES:
No Audio from the WinTV:
Most audio mixers are muted by default in Windows XP. Click start/Programs/Accessories/Entertainment/Volume control. Be sure that there is a separate LINE IN balance here, which is not muted, and has the volume level turned up.
If there is no LINE IN balance, you can add one by clicking options/properties, and putting a checkmark next to LINE IN.
In the WinTV program, click the AUD button for the audio configuration, and set the mixer to LINE IN, and be sure that the mixer level is turned up.
The external audio wire must be connected from the WinTV line out to the Line input of the soundcard.
The new "De-Interlacer" software requires a VGA card that correctly supports video overlay mode.
“Error: Connecting VBI-pin and XFormTee Filters” (also 'connecting preview pin', 'connecting overlay mixer' errors):
This indicates that an upated VGA driver for Windows XP is required for the VGA card in the system. Download and install the latest Windows XP compliant VGA driver from the VGA manufacturers website which should correct this issue. You may also change the Primary program from 'allow overlay' mode to 'force primary'.
"Failed to create TV Window, another application may be using the driver" error; "Missing HCWCHAN.DLL" error, and missing "HCWBTxxx.sys" error:
This indicates a driver installation problem. Try reinstalling the latest WinTV driver. You may need to follow the "If you are having problems" instructions to first uninstall, and reload using the latest updates.
I am using the new WinTV2000 application with the "de-interlacer" feature, and I am missing the remote applet that was once available to the right of the WinTV Window:
The video capture features are no longer available within this version of WinTV2000, however, you may achieve .AVI captures by using the provided AMCAP application which is installed with the WinTV driver installation.
IR Remote error: "The Procedure Entry Point SUnMapLS could not be located in the dynamic link library Kernal32.dll":
Run the HCWCLEAR utility from your WinTV CD rom, choosing "total removal" and put a checkmark in the box for "Search all .INF files for conflicting Bt8xx hardware" Click OK. Reload the latest WinTV Driver, Application, and IR32 software. If this does not correct the issue, download and install the WinTV VFW drivers.
There are 5 video inputs displaying in the WinTV 2000 application suite manager:
With the WDM drivers installed, the WinTV will display 5 separate video inputs: Tuner, S-Video/Composite, Composite, Composite2, and Composite3. Composite 2 and 3 are non functional and will display a blue screen only with WinTV tuner boards. These options function only for multiple input Impact VCB boards.
Controlling the audio source with Windows Movie Maker:
If you open Windows Movie Maker, and do not hear audio, browse your WinTV CD rom, and within the MISC/UTILITY folder there is a utility called "Audioselect". Run this program, which will allow you to select the audio source(Line In). When the audioselect program is initialized, it will place an icon on the system tray (next to the clock). Click on the "WinTV audio select" icon on the tray, which will open the dialogue. Here is where you will choose the source(ie. Line in).

TROUBLESHOOTING NOTES:
No Audio from the WinTV:
Most audio mixers are muted by default in Windows XP. Click start/Programs/Accessories/Entertainment/Volume control. Be sure that there is a separate LINE IN balance here, which is not muted, and has the volume level turned up. Sometimes the MIC input must be used(certain Laptops).
In the WinTV program, click the AUD button for the audio configuration, and set the mixer to LINE IN, (or Mic) and be sure that the mixer level is turned up.
The external audio wire must be connected from the WinTV line out to the Line input (or Mic input) of the soundcard.
The system locks when attempting to run WinTV:
Lockups may occur on XP systems if the USB controller is a VIA, ALI, or other 3rd party USB controller. An Intel controller is recommended. Try setting the primary program(start/programs/Hauppauge/Primary) to "Dib Draw" to see if this addresses the lockup issue. Also, assure the WinTV is connected directly to the USB port on the PC and not through a hub or keyboard.
It is also recommended to install the latest Beta driver for the WinTV USB on XP systems with this problem.
As a last resort, in some cases it has been found that adding a PCI USB port card to the system and connecting WinTV directly to one of the USB ports on the new PCI card should address this problem.
