From time to time, there might be a new WinCast/TV or WinTVpci driver which is an improvement over the existing driver. Driver updates can be downloaded from the Software Updates section on the Hauppauge Internet Web site.
The WinCast/TV driver can be updated from the Update Driver option which can be found in the Driver tab in the WinCast/TV Properties folder. In DeviceManager, look under Sound,Video and Game controllers. Click on Hauppauge WinCast/TV and then click on the Properties button. Click on the Driver tab, then click on Update Driver, then HaveDisk and continue from step 4 below.
Alternately, the following procedure can used to update the WinCast/TV driver directly from the Device Manager:
1. First, you need to remove the old WinCast/TV driver. Open up the Control Panel by clicking on the Start button, then Settings/ControlPanel. Now open up the System properties setup by double clicking on its icon, then click on the Device Manager folder. Select Sound, video and game controllers. Now single click on Hauppauge WinCast/TV:
Click on Remove to remove the old driver. You’ll be prompted to confirm this, click on OK.
2. Now click on Refresh. This will cause Windows 95 to search for new Plug-and-Play devices.
3. The WinCast/TV board should be seen:
Click OK.
Important:
If, instead of the above screen, you see the following screen:
then there was a problem loading the new Direct Draw driver. To complete the driver installation, refer to the section entitled If you are having a problem installing the WinCast Driver.
4. You will then be asked to Install from Disk:
Put the WinCast/TV Driver Disk in your floppy drive and click OK. You will then be asked which device to install.
5. Select Hauppauge WinCast/TV:
Click on OK and Windows95 will load the WinCast/TV drivers.
Then Reboot when asked to do so.
Sometimes Windows95 will not let you install an updated driver. Instead it simply uses the existing driver which had been loaded onto your PC. In this case, you need to manually unload the WinCast driver, then start again above in steps 2 though 5.
To unload the existing WinCast driver, follow these steps:
Look for the existing WinCast drivers. To do this, click on the Start button, then Find / Files or Folders. In the Advanced tab, under Containing Text type in WinCast:
Then click on the Name and Location tab. Type in the name *.INF and the location c:\windows\inf (assuming your Windows95 directory is called c:\windows):
Then click Find Now.
These are the INF files (information files) of the WinCast as seen by Windows 95. Every time you installed a WinCast driver, a new entry is made. So you might have only one or you might have many.
Then click on Edit/SelectAll, and then File/Delete to delete these information files.
Now go to step 2 above and continue the installation.
